History
In the fall of 1982
the Western Taney County Fire Protection District was formed by a vote of the
citizens of Western Taney County when it was seen that the need existed to
improve on the fire protection that was being provided. On April 7 1998, after a
vote of the people, the 60 square miles of the J & JJ area were added. That
area is currently covered by station 8. On October 15, 2003 the fire district
entered into agreement with the City of Hollister to merge the Hollister Fire
Department and Western Taney County Fire District.
- MISSION
- To proudly protect the lives and
property by providing prompt, skillful, cost-effective fire protection and
life safety services to the citizens and visitors within the boundaries of
the Western Taney County Fire Protection District.

- FINANCES
- The district is a tax supported
entity of Taney County. The current tax assessment rate is $.38 per $100.00
assessed value of real estate and personal property.

- COVERAGE
- The district currently covers
approximately 212 square miles of the western third of Taney County
excluding the city of Branson.

- STAFFING
- The district is governed by a
three member Board of Directors who are elected to a six year term by the
citizens of the district. Currently the district has 90 volunteer and
employs a full time paid Fire Chief, Assistant Chief / Training Officer,
Assistant Chief/Fire Prevention, Apparatus Technician and an Office Manager.
